Energy Harvesting. I think about it sometimes.
I believe there’s a lot of potential in energy harvesting. I don’t know a lot about it (right now). And I’m curious and interested in learning more.
For me, the idea of capturing and repurposing human energy seems like a big idea. Can we capture energy from treadmills at the gym? How about capturing energy from doors opening and closing in public buildings?
Dr. Ville Kaajakari of Louisiana Tech University has developed a technology that harvests power from a small generator embedded in the sole of a shoe.
Every step we take – energy is exerted. What if that was enough energy to power our cell phones? Or what if we could plug our shoes in at the end of the day and dump that captured energy back into the grib? I bet that could add up pretty quickly if thousands or millions of people were doing it.
I stumbled upon this blog post recently and it’s furthered my curiosity.
